Climbing Team Dues

Greetings parents,

The dues for the team this year are $200 for spring semester 2011.

We try to make the team affordable. Overall, our dues are much less expensive than those of other teams around town. Please make checks out to Pacific Crest Community School.

Thanks very much!

Welcome to the PCCS climbing team!

Greetings parents and students,

We're excited to begin this, the 4th year of the PCCS Climbing Team! The climbing team began with a few basic goals in mind: to provide students with an organized athletic program (especially since, at the time, PCCS did not have any organized athletics program); to provide students an opportunity to strengthen their bodies and become more flexible; to work together and be part of a team; and finally, and most importantly, to play and have fun in the afternoons after school.

Since Jordia and I are avid rock climbers, and since rock climbing is such a great activity/sport for kids, it's been great fun to incorporate rock climbing into the overall PCCS program. The sport of rock climbing is an appropriate sport for Pacific Crest students to pursue, in that it requires cooperation, mental as well as physical skills, and is non-competitive (meaning that being "the best" is not the focus--a skinny 12-year old can be just as "good" as a beefcake adult!). Much like yoga, rock climbing demands consistency and balance, strength and flexibility, and a positive mental attitude. We have fun helping kids learn all of these qualities!

Our program consists of the following:
-we go to the Portland Rock Gym every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00-4:00pm
-we take trips outside: either weekend trips to Smith Rock State Park (in central Oregon), or day trips to local cliffs around Portland (French's Dome, Broughton Bluff, Carver Cliff).

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!
Thanks!
